The wrist lock and the joint manipulation are two moves that could be used in the event that you won't know how to approach your opponent. These variations will certainly make your opponent question why they threaten you in the first place. The wrist lock can be done on the ground or standing. The idea is to simply twist the opponent's wrist (there's specific ways to perform the movements depending on what category of Martial Arts you're participating in). The joint manipulation can be done on whatever body part desired so long as the movement shifts certain joints in an unfamiliar manner.
